Recipes

Soaps, anyone?

On this page, I would like to share/offer some recipes for soap making as I make some I think you may be interested in.  If it is not my recipe, I will certainly give credit by either website address or book name and author.

Certainly, I am of a hermitude nature.   And, it is hard sometimes to think someone might want to know what I know.  But, I have heard often enough I should write a book!  Like, who has the time?  This may be my book, then.  Thanks for reading it.  If you have any comments, especially regarding the tiral of these recipes, I would sure love to hear.  You may email me from any page on this website.  Thanks for stopping by.  ♥

As they say on all the sites I have visited, please don't sell my recipes.  You are very welcomed to use them and sell the resulting soap, but please use the honor code with regard to the recipe itself.  Thanks.

 Ivory Gardenia Castile Soap

A Castile Soap Recipe

A castile soap that is not pure olive oil is usually termed a Royale or American Castile.   I cannot find out why.  If you know, I'd love to hear about it.    I make a pure olive oil soap.  But, I personally prefer a lathering soap, and so I've come up with a lathering castile soap. This is my recipe, and at this time, I am using it.

28 ounce coconut oil, 75 degree melt point                                                                                                        46 ounce pomace olive oil                                                                                                                                   6 ounce castor oil                                                                                                                                                 12 3/8 ounce lye is 0% superfat.  We like to at least have 5% for a cushion (and for this soap I would go no more)                                                                                                                                                               so use 11 5/8 ounce to 11 3/4 ounce lye to 27 ounce distilled or purified water

For a Fragranced Soap with a little extra added (just before trace):

1 1/2 ounce melted cocoa butter for dry skin, (or grape seed or sweet almond oil for oily skin soap), and       1 1/8 to 1 1/2 ounce fragrance oil.

The oils used in this recipe lead to a trace pretty quickly.  Have your ingredients and mold ready.  I cover my soap in the mold with plastic, then cardboard, and plenty of blankets to keep it warm.  I leave it thus for 48 hours.  This is longer than recommended by most sources.  I find it works great.  Any questions or comments, please email me here.
